One of the strange paradoxes of living in the so-called “New World” is seeing how obviously ancient it all really is. I love seeing colorful granite like this for the colors and shapes but also for how it represents a snapshot of millions of years captured in stone. They are monuments to time and powerful reminders of how small we really are on that scale. Throughout Muskoka we see it everywhere. Most of the lake shores are solid granite, houses are built on it and the roads are carved through it. We are in daily contact with that eternal world, we live on it, play on it and sometimes, when we are wide awake, we slow down to actually notice it. Then it speaks, showing us the past and the future all at once.
