The boathouse I shared in the previous post, on the extremely foggy winter lake, was very difficult to see. You had to strain the eyes to find it. I wanted to clear the fog and share another one, this time easy to see. I like how this looks as if it might be way out in the wilderness somewhere but I photographed this boathouse on the river covered in snow in downtown Huntsville Ontario. I love that about Muskoka towns. Even when you’re on a main street, or in the most busy part of town, the Muskoka wilderness has its place there too.
Huntsville is interesting during winter. I’ve seen deer wandering around the main street, in the schoolyards, at the hockey arena and in the residential neighborhoods. It happens every winter. The deer and people are so used to each other that nobody is surprised at these “urban” encounters anymore. I mentioned this in an earlier post which shows and talks about deer in downtown Huntsville.
Sights like this one, and the deer in town, are constant reminders that while we may feel we’re in a small Muskoka town or “city”, and be distracted by all its happenings, the towns are just small and trivial specks existing in a vast wild world that really belongs to nature.
